The statue of General Charles Devens stands on the lawn in front of the old Worcester County Courthouse. Designed by the sculptor Daniel Chester French, the memorial was installed in 1906. It was dedicated to Charles Devens for his notable service in the state military during the Civil War. Besides serving the Union Army, General Devens acted as a solicitor for the city of Worcester, later being promoted several times up to the Attorney General of the USA. The statue also honors the memory of the soldiers of Worcester County who fought in the war for the Union.
